Hi.

Thanks for wanting to know more about me. Whatever brought you here, curiosity, intrigue, general interest, I’m happy to give you more insight into the person behind the perspective. It’ll probably be more information than you want to know, but, no one is making you read this. So I wont get offended if you quit partway. But remember, quitting is a habit. Just sayin’…

I’m Cassie. That’s what my friends call me, or Cass. Which is where “Cass Sees” came from; it’s my perspective and also sounds like Cassie, to me at least! I am a multi-ethnic black woman, living in Chicago, IL. I grew up in that state up north, on the west side, in a place called Kalamazoo. Yes, it’s real. And I love it. Although I haven’t lived there in over a decade, it will always be home. After high school, I migrated south to Buckeye Nation to play soccer for Ohio State, which was the best decision I’ve ever made. I am so proud to be a OSUWSOC alum and I go hard for my Buckeyes. When you invest blood, sweat, and tears (all literal) that type of connection tends to happen.

While at Ohio State (WI ‘10), I became a member of the first, and the finest, black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated. I crossed into Theta Chapter with 18 amazing women who I love with all of my heart. After graduating from Ohio State with a dual degree in animal science and nutrition, I went on to pursue my law degree at the University of Kansas. I graduated from KU Law with a certificate in Media Law and Technology and was admitted to the Bar in 2014. I also ended up dusting off the boots to play for the Jayhawks, it’s a long story. But my identity as an athlete is something I treasure, you can read more about how I kick it here:

I strongly believe in the power of “why,” and that with the right why you can endure almost any “how.” My why is rooted in the connection between sport and culture. As long as I can remember I’ve cared deeply about our society and what impact my life will have on it. I’ve been ingrained in athletics since birth, but it wasn’t until college when I came to appreciate the way sport intercedes with society. The power of sport is undeniable; in the establishment of societal principles, the integration of social classes, and an overall sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. It was at this same time when I was first introduced to the world of intellectual property as a student-athlete representative during the O’Bannon trial era. So I chose to focus my legal discipline in IP and technology because like sports, tech is one of the most integral components of our global community. It brings us together while pushing us forward. It’s my mission to combine these pieces to positively shape and influence culture through technological advancement in sport.

If you haven’t already noticed, I consider myself a lifelong athlete, and enjoy connecting with friends and community through fitness. Maintaining a diverse training schedule is also kind of like therapy to me. Living a balanced life can be difficult, especially as an entrepreneurial minded young professional. That’s why it’s so important to me to be deliberate about finding a balance in all areas of my life; mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

I guess I should probably talk about how I got into the hand lettering business. It all started in church, just taking notes. It turned into something I love and something I've become a student of. It made me realize that we are a manager of the gifts God has given to us. They may be great or small in our eyes, but they matter to God.  So, now I spend my “free time” as a creative hand-letterer, producing custom projects for fun and for clients. My favorite part about my craft is being able to successfully execute something from vision to reality.

If you’ve made it this far, I’m very proud of you. I feel like we’re best friends now. Believe it or not, there’s still so much to learn about me. You’ll be able to learn more about how I see it as I develop the blog. But for now, those three icons in the top right corner will lead you in the right direction…

With love,
